68. Bliss Hubs in Koh Lanta, Thailand

Nadeem and Dionne Arshad are long-term worldschoolers originally from the UK. Parents to five children, the family decided in 2022 to step away from traditional schooling, careers, and standard routines to travel across Southeast Asia.

What began as a short trip evolved into an extended slow-travel journey spanning Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Vietnam, Sri Lanka, Borneo, and the Philippines.

Finding Community in Thailand

Over time, Koh Lanta in Thailand became their second home, serving as an anchor where they spent significant portions of each year prioritizing rich experiences and meaningful quality time over possessions.

Embracing a hands-on approach to education, the Arshads view the world as their primary classroom, leaning into environmental immersion for subjects like history, geography, and science while picking up conversational phrases in Thai, Bahasa Indonesia, and Malay.

Financially, they sustain their lifestyle through UK property income and an independent remote travel agency business, utilizing slow travel to cut living costs by 50% compared to their life in the UK.

To combat the isolation that often accompanies long-term travel, Nadeem and Dionne established Bliss Hubs, a self-sustaining, parent-led community in Koh Lanta that hosted over 70 families and 130 children last season through shared sports, co-learning sessions, and cultural excursions.
