Long before launching a global co-traveling community for families, Michelle Rødgaard-Jessen’s worldview was shaped by an international upbringing. Born in Denmark to a Danish father and a Taiwanese mother who grew up in Brazil, travel was an essential family priority.
After studying in Beijing alongside her partner, Nikolaj, the couple spent four years living as digital nomads and now travel with their two children as they blend consulting work and an unschooling philosophy with slow, intentional family adventure.

The Story Behind Traveling Village
While traveling with young kids offered incredible freedom, Michelle and Nikolaj frequently felt the absence of a steady, supportive peer group on the road. That desire for connection led to the launch of Traveling Village in 2024.
Traveling Village is designed to bring nomadic and traveling families together for multi-month journeys. Currently on their third edition, traveling across Vietnam, Taiwan, and South Korea, the initiative has evolved to emphasize off-the-beaten-path destinations, close-knit neighborhood living within walking distance, and active community involvement.

The entire Traveling Village crew!
By staying and traveling together over several months rather than passing through on short stays, both parents and children build meaningful, lasting friendships that transform temporary travel into a shared way of life.
Where To Learn More About The Traveling Village
For families curious about taking their own leap into long-term travel, Michelle emphasizes patience, noting that discovering your family’s unique rhythm takes time.
